Le Portel will always remain a club dear to Eric Girard's heart. He arrived there in 2012 for just three months and ended up staying for fourteen years. Today, he watches with absolute sadness as the club plummets. "I don't know if we can truly speak of a team today," he confides, lamenting the situation for everyone who works there and for those who, like him, deeply love Le Portel.
Eric Girard, who lives a few kilometers from Le Chaudron, states he is ready to take on a head coach position as early as next season. He maintains contact with some members of the ESSM staff but no longer has any communication with the current president.
"Naturally, I still have contacts because all the staff (except Kenny Grant and his assistant) had been there for some time. I know all the directors, and we sometimes discuss basketball when we meet, but I no longer have any contact with the president (Yann Rivoal)," he explains. Girard reveals he offered his help to the club upon his departure – not to coach or manage, but to provide sporting advice – aware of the lack of basketball experts among the shareholders and directors. "I thought it might interest them, but apparently not. The president wanted to turn the page, and that was done. We only met once when they dismissed Kenny Grant."
